The Florida Legislature is aware of the trauma crisis and has put forth effort to study and evaluate the funding shortage. They are considering legislation that has been successful in other states. For example, Texas had a $250 million dollar goal and successfully implemented a Safe Driver Program that earns fees from habitual bad drivers through surcharges on moving violations and DUIs. This has been instrumental in saving trauma centers.
